Phone Poem

The Phone Poem Complete

             Ahem!

I love, indeed, to quote myself;

I have so much well said.

My words just tumble out and go,

Buzzing about my head.

I had been reading my own books, and all I did was mention that I didn't think the second one was as good as the first.  That was when my good friend Fred announced to the car full of friends, "The next thing we know, you will be quoting yourself like Larry."  Imagine a car full of chuckles.  We were on our way home from Saturday night Mass at St. Clare's.  Anyone knowing Fred can afix the proper tone of voice to the comment.  Sometimes it is just not easy having close friends, especially those of a certain sarcastic disposition.  I trust I have evened the score.

Hmm.  Those words.  What are they really doing?  Stumbling about, buzzing about, rumbling around my head.  Whirling around my head, whirling about my head?  Well, as Huck would say, it's a poser.  Being a writer of refined and extremely quotable verse is not an easy task.  Choices, choices.  Sigh.
